I began my artistic exploration shortly after college, while beginning my engineering career. I found that shaping vessels using clay slabs opened a creative outlet I'd never expected, and have spent the subsequent 15 years discovering the possibilities available in this medium. I've displayed my work at many art festivals and galleries, most notably the ACGA (California Association of Ceramic and Glass Artists) shows in Palo Alto and San Francisco, and the Virginia Breier Gallery in San Francisco.
The forms have a fine, elegant sensibility while the textures and glaze patterns harmoniously accentuate the expression of the piece. Some of my pieces explore the interplay between order and chaos – our desire to control our lives and environment, which are essentially uncontrollable. Others are simply fluid expressions of beauty.
In 2004 I wrapped up my engineering career and went traveling thru Thailand and India, returning in 2006 to devote myself fully to my artwork. The inspiration I gathered during my journeys has yielded an outpouring of new ideas which shows no signs of abating. My desire to have my pieces speak more, to be more emotionally resonant and evocative, is bearing fruit.
Currently I've been focusing on vessels as my primary expression, but I will soon be working more with closed, purely sculptural forms, which is an exciting move as I feel it will allow me much greater exploration of aesthetic and artistic possibilities, invoking a deeper degree of meaning and beauty in my work, and in my life.
